How are you?
This news letter is long! If you want to skip to the April 2020 events please just scroll down. Otherwise thank you for taking the time to read, and to participate.
One of the practices, realities, or even truths that is YOGA is that it is CHANGE. The asana practice, the meditation practice, to actually living your yamas and niyamas it all prepares you to go to that place, where you can see what you are clinging too. It sets up a platform, that you are able to see YOURSELF, your Actions(in actions) your thought patterns, habits, and then BOOM it offers you to make a change. The change happens whether you are ready or not. Our entire lifetime is filled with change. It is constantly changing. And perhaps it is safe to say, that holding on to things (the way they were/are) creates great suffering. This suffering in turn can also trigger CONTROL. Perhaps, this is the biggest challenge we have to face as humans(along with greed) but the notion that we can control situations, realities, people, conversations.... is all also based on an illusion. If we accept the reality, that all is changing, and bound to change then we cannot also be in the mind set of control... I am in control...
And here we are, in a situation that none of us foresaw in the beginning of the month. To be very honest, I even down played the Corona Virus. I made fun of it!!! I was not taking it seriously. I am saying this, as an example of how I see that when things are foreign to me, and when they seem far away, I react like most people(ignorantly). I am utterly embarrassed to be honest. I thought of myself as more compassionate, intelligent and even smarter...but nope. I only took the news of Corona Virus seriously on March 10th. That morning I woke up at 3am and read many articles, by the morning of the 12th I wrote to Ondrej, “we gotta close and get Zoja out of here.” So we did, just that... and one by one, people started to see this enormous change that was about transfer our lives. Borders closed, schools closed, all arts, theatres, dance, music, gyms, studios... stores closed!!!! Boom just like that. We saw it coming, but not all of us understood the gravity of the situation, and then BOOM it happens to us. And since Zoja did go to Canada, she went straight into quarantine, and we have been in touch daily and I can say that in North America they took their time, they didn’t react as quickly as European States... anyways, that is another story.
The point is, that the change was coming, the virus was coming, and we weren’t all taking it seriously. And here we are. Together apart. My heart aches for all the people in the margins, who will be so royally economically devastated by this. Think all the local businesses, cafes, clothing stores, artists, studios, and the list goes on. How do they spend their time reinventing themselves? How will they make a living?
of major opportunity. People usually open up to YOGA, or a practice that helps them go inside, when they are in the process of healing. Be it to heal their physical body, or emotional self, or even mental. People come to yoga(change) to better understand how to be in that moment. And then illusion kicks in, I AM FINE Now! The point of yoga is to do it every day. In so many different ways. It isn’t to practice a sequence every day(although yes, it is magnificent to move our bodies) but sometimes it is much more beneficial to be of service. To help! (this can be done by volunteering your time) So that in fact you are in a place of constantly giving, learning, and receiving... therefore also changing.
We are all here to better deal with the challenges that present themselves. We are all going through some thing, it can be a t work, school, home, it can be with ourselves, a relationship, lack there of, it is really fundamentally important that we make the effort to stay vulnerable, open, kind and that we hold space for change. NOT Passively. But yes, as a form of rebellion, or protest to what was, to what wasn’t working, this is our chance collectively to rise and say this opportunity comes once in a life time.
Creatures tend to do things collectively, and tend to strive when they are in teams or communities. What are we going to take away from this? As yogis, we need to reach our hands out, and let our voices be heard. For sure if you are reading this, you know also that since this has all gone down this month, mother earth has had a moment to exhale. To relax, and maybe even replenish. This means we too can contribute to these changes more consciously.
A good thing to keep asking ourselves is what are we afraid of?
How do we face our fears? How do we help others who are in fear?
As we mentioned before in our social media posts, when we decided to TEMPORARILY close the studio down, we quickly decided to also do podcasts.
So hopefully you have had the chance to keep up your practice by downloading the app and practising YG style!
There are two Yin practices, there is one YG flow(challenging) two vinyasa’s totally the same just one is in English and one is in Czech, and finally there is also a YG class(challenging) and a morning meditation. More to come!!!!
This being said, this is the opportunity of a life time to do yoga on-line, so if you have the time try out as many classes from all over the world.
SUNDAY, APRIL 12TH
This treasure hunt is like no other treasure hunt! We want to have an activity for parents and kids. It is to be done in twos. So the families can split up into teams. Spring is here, and we all love it, even if we are confined to our homes, we are allowed to go for a walk. This treasure hunt you will look for specific trees that have an Easter egg, bunny, basket PAPER ornament hanging on the tree. If you find such a tree, take a picture. Magnolia Team, Cherry Blossom team, and Chestnut team. Please if you are interested you need to sign up via fb. This is a very event just for fun, more details once you have signed up. You can participate even if you don’t have kids!!!
Pretty much everything feels like a challenge right now! So many of you were doing such a wonderful job in your 30 day challenge. I really injured my knee and only did the first two days. But i got emails, and messages, of how happy and and GOOD you felt!
My heart broke when we decided to close temporarily (because I really thought it would be 2 weeks) OM. And yeah, well it is going to be longer!
So, here it is (sign up through fb) it is free of charge. But we want to know all the participants, and we want to have a little more details about your practice.
We will release 4 different sequences that help you to build a stronger practice towards a peak pose. Each sequence will be 15 minutes. So it will be 15 minutes of repeating this practice for 30 days. We will ask you to keep a weekly journal to see how it is changing you, are sleeping more? Laughing more? Are you feeling grounded? We want you to share your experience with us!
Something of vital importance is learning to say NO. See how many things you are doing, and see if they are helping you to be the best you? Sometimes, it is hard to say no. But this is that opportunity where you can teach your kids (if you have kids at home) to make a meal, to set the table to clean up, and in those moments, you can do your challenge, you can take a shower, or a NAP! You can say NO. No, I can’t do everything, yes, I need your help. You can say NO, I am not going to get dressed today, and yes I am going to visit the fridge every ten minutes... until the fridge says NO more left inside!
This is a really new time for all of us. Be kind to yourselves, and to each other.
Many of you have reached out to us and asked to make a contribution to the podcasts. We are very thankful and grateful to your generosity! We would like to encourage you, to please help those who really need the help. There are many ways to donate.
Also if you are cleaning out your closet, you can donate clothes to the homeless they are looking mainly for men’s clothing, but will accept all functional clothing(nothing fancy) 58 Bratislavska street open Po, UT, Ct, Pa: 8;30-11am 12-15pm call 737 229 885.
Also you can donate to a group that is making food for doctors and nurses.
We have no idea how long we will be together apart, but for April it seems that our doors will remain closed.
So much courage to you all. Thank you for YOU! Be healthy, play it safe.
Christina and all of YG crew.
