There are moments in life where we look for guidance from a higher place then the constant chatter or worries of our mind. Our busy hectic mind, needs to find a second to link to a another.. to form an entire minute, 15 minutes of silence, stillness-calmness. Quiet, without interruption. The space to realize our insecurities...To acknowledge and perhaps accept our flaws...to grasp the need for the paradigm shift that has been brewing and surfacing. Meditation is helpful in finding, cultivating and promoting Silence and awareness.
It doesn’t happen over night. In that stillness what initially appears, are your deeper thoughts, attachments, resentments, memories, traumas, fears, relationships, expectations, losses, a vast Universe of you is present and you are asked to look at what is the past, the future, and NOW Yoga as a practice strives to teach us that the best place to begin is where you are NOW. Not where you want to be, but where you are.
Maybe you’re doing the YG November Challenge? Maybe you are having a hard time committing to it and so you are grooving to the on line weekend DJ classes? Whatever you are doing notice your approach. Are you upset? Are you calm? Is there disappointment? Excitement? Are you grounded or flighty? Take time to explore where you are at. Notice what tools you have to help you be still and and quiet. What is disrupting the peace? How much effort do we put into our actions? Reactions? When we train daily to embrace the material world, there are lots of long exhales, and sometimes rivers of tears are shed to untangle the grip. Allow for space, silence calm to go in another direction. It is very easy to point fingers, to put the blame somewhere else (government, summer, lifestyle, the desire for “normal”)...
Back in April I wrote about the New Normal... and in March I wrote about how when we don’t experience something, we think we are invincible... and here we are again. Right now we are in that situation where we look in the mirror and we either are okay with our behaviour, or we avoid the mirror.
In March a man whom I respect very much as a writer, Yogi, and intellectual wrote and article that literally destroyed me. I sent it to Ondrej, my business partner, and he responded by saying “let’s hope he is wrong”.
why didn’t I push to going online already during the summer? Why was I avoiding the entire ON LINE world? It is really simple actually. We spent three years building this gorgeous space, concept, and approach to Yoga at YG so that we can BE together, and not be apart, or ON LINE. I wasn’t prepared to change the concept, to let go of the dream. I didn’t even have a chance to have a full run... a good go at it.
filming our November challenge, learning to teach in front of a camera, with lights on, floods of insecurities drowning you while you teach, did I forget something? Should I say something? Who is really watching this? Do they understand what I mean?
Creating an entirely new project is where we are now. And no I wasn’t trained to teach to a camera. I am 100% a people person, a hugger, a touch your feet and press your shoulders down teacher(if you give me permission of course). I love seeing you walk into class tell me how you are, what’s up and then see how the practice affects you.
I have been holding a brave face, and trying to contain all these emotions, so that I can still be that leader for the crew. But yeah, the wheel has turned, and we are going in another direction. And we still need YOU. We won’t pull through without your feedback, your viewing, and participating on line.
I highly recommend, to find a position of comfort, with warm tea, and thick socks, a pillow to sit on a create a meditation practice. First, allowing yourself to see where you are at. What appears when there is silence. Notice what you are clinging to, and see where you are. Show up daily. Even for ten minutes...then expand. Prepare for what is ahead, we all have ways of being in denial, and of drowning out what we don’t want to hear.
THIS SITUATION ISN’T GOING TO CHANGE OVER NIGHT...
Please take care of yourselves, your loved ones, and of the most vulnerable in our communities.
Lots of love,Christina and YG Crew
